Zack Smith

Overview

Zack Smith is an internationally known expert on the design and use of para-anchors and storm drogues. His Shark™ drogue is widely recognized as one of the most innovative drag device designs available to boaters. A lifelong sailor he is the first in his industry to emphasize the critical importance of removing slack rode attached to drag devices to stop dangerous shock loading. Zack, who heads Fiorentino’s Research and Design Team, has completed years of sea trials resulting in his “Constant Rode Tension Theory.”  The solutions within the theory, which he will discuss at boat show seminars, advises sailors to keep rode taut by using rode with less stretch, specific rode length deployment, adding weights to drag devices and using Fiorentino’s “Free-Flying Riding Sail” and engine or sail power to increase vessel speed. Zack is the author of several first-of-a-kind technical reports on his testing and is the producer of the groundbreaking DVD, “The Complete Para-Anchor Set-Up.”
