Capt. Lucy Newman / ASA
Captain Lucy Newman is a USCG Licensed captain and an ASA Certified Instructor. She has been sailing and racing for over 40 years. Lucy learned how to sail as a youngster on inland lakes and the Atlantic Ocean on the Southeastern seaboard of the USA. As an adult she has owned various sailboats and sailed on the Great Lakes, Puget Sound, the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean. She lived aboard on her own sloop for over ten years. She raced in the Charleston to Bermuda Race in 2003, multiple Harvest Moon Regattas, Race to the Border in 2009, and many other offshore events. Capt. Lucy is also an accomplished delivery captain with numerous Gulf crossings, including delivery of a 47 ft. Tayana from Grenada to Texas. Her passion for sailing and her years of experience have contributed to her earning the 2006 ASA “Outstanding Instructor” award. In addition, she has served as the ASA BVI Flotilla leader for the last 3 years. Capt. Lucy is committed to her profession and will devote as much time as possible to help anyone who wants to learn how to harness the power of the wind! She is certified to teach ASA Basic Keelboat, Basic Coastal Cruising, Bareboat Chartering, Coastal Navigation, Advanced Coastal Cruising, Catamaran Cruising, and the Basic Celestial Navigation and Docking Endorsements. Capt. Lucy is also available for private lessons.
