San Jacinto River Waste Pits Superfund Site in Channelview

Scott will provide an overview of the history of the San Jacinto River Waste Pits Superfund Site in Channelview, the location for paper mill waste disposal in the 1960s.  The site, discovered in 2005, contains toxic dioxins that have resulted in seafood consumption advisories and has been the subject of an EPA-led cleanup process since 2008. Scott will let you know why GBF has called for removal of the wastes, the steps that have been taken to temporarily stabilize the site and recently approved plans to permanently clean it up, along with the cleanup timeline.
